This Directorate analyses and pronounces on the quality and safety of regulated products i.e. food, drug, cosmetics, medical devices, detergents, chemicals and packaged water. The laboratory also serves as reference laboratory for other government agencies e.g. The Nigerian Customs Services by analyzing samples for tariff classification and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to identify and quantify narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance.

In the last few years, the Agency has fully developed and modernized some of these specialized laboratories and some of them have thus been accredited by various International Organizations and also run joint research/consultancy programmes for such International Organizations

The vision of Laboratory Service Directorate is for NAFDAC Laboratories to become the accredited reference laboratories for the West African Sub-Region by WHO, FAO, IAEA, UNICEF, EU and other International Organizations.

Our mission is to run all the NAFDAC Laboratories in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice and Good Quality Assurance Systems.

The Directorate projects to have future laboratories located at Warri, Calabar, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano to serve the export processing zones, the South-South and South-East geo-political zones in the country.
